Rental Services, Inc. September 2019 Newsletter!
In this month’s newsletter, I thought we would discuss
password security.
About 93% of all Rental Services, Inc. clients access the
RSI website. Every person who uses the RSI website is issued a unique username
and password to login to the website. Some use the site to order reports and
others simply use it to review completed reports.
During a recent RSI team meeting it was brought up that we
continue to receive phone calls from clients about login issues. As we explain the
steps to recover or reset the password using the built-in tools from the website,
we often find the client is sharing login information with someone else in
their office. The person sharing the password doesn’t know the answers to the
security questions and they can’t reset the password. This causes problems for
everyone involved.
No one using the RSI website should share their login
information with others. It is a direct violation of the RSI Services Agreement
and the credit bureaus require us to suspend access to the RSI website if we
suspect a client is sharing credentials. If someone in your office needs access
to the website, we will happily set up additional users on your account. Send
us a request and include the new users’ full name, phone number and email
address. The new user will be setup within 1 business day.
Whether you’re a new user or your password has expired you
will need to select a new password. To meet new credit bureau requirements RSI has
increased the required length of passwords to the RSI website. New passwords
must be a minimum of twelve (12) characters in length. Each password must contain
at least one (1) character from the three (3) following categories:
o Uppercase
or Lowercase letter (A-Z a-z)
o Digit
(0-9)
o Special
character (~`! @#$%^&*()+=_-{}[]\|:;”’?/<>,.)
When selecting a password RSI recommends the following.
1. Make your password long.
2. Make your password a nonsense phrase.
3. Include numbers, symbols and upper- and lower-case
letters.
4. Avoid using obvious personal information.
5. Do not reuse passwords.
7. Keep your password to yourself.
If you have questions about your password, please give us a
call.
